I've got nothin' but love for the extraordinary job that President Trump is doing. Like John Kennedy and Ronald Reagan before'm, Trump is, I believe, a Closet Libertarian. And that explains his Greatness, of course. But he's got to pull his head out'f it, on this CoronaVirus response. To quote another of the few Presidents we've had who were worth a damn, Abraham Lincoln: "A house, divided against itself, cannot stand." Or, as Mister Miyagi, of Karate Kid fame, put it, a bit more expansively... "Daniel-san, must talk...Man walk on the road, hmm? Walk left side...safe. Walk right side...safe. Walk down middle, sooner or later, (makes squish gesture) get squished, just like grape. Here, Karate, same thing. Either you Karate do 'yes,' or Karate do 'no.' You Karate do 'guess so,'...(makes squish gesture)." My point? No economy, least of all America's, can operate effectively, half-cocked. We either need to let it rip, all the way, 100%, or keep it completely shut down. Why? Because very few businesses have a prayer of turning a profit, when all business are operating with one hand tied behind their backs. I, for one, believe that things never should've been shut down in the first place. There are those who would consider that statement cold-blooded, and heartless, but those folks have not thought through the potentially catastrophic effects of the mass quarantine, which could potentially cripple our economy for years, and even trigger another Great Depression. Nor, if they think my words heartless, have they considered the alternative: We should've simply made arrangements to concentrate defensive measures towards the protection of those in greatest peril, and otherwise respect the rights of every American to decide for himself or herself just how much effort each one of us wanted to make on our own behalves to protect ourselves. Boom. Done. Not only would concentrated defensive measures towards the protection of those in greatest peril have allowed the economy to keep rolling, without prospectively triggering the epic economic catastrophe that the measures taken risks, they probably would've been more effective! I'll say that again: We could've saved trillions of dollars and saved more lives. Concentrating one's forces, in virtually all aspects of life, is the most likely path to success. These half-measures? They'll bleed us dry. Either shut it down, or let'er rip, guys. You've got to decide. Washington? You've got this entire Economy prairie-doggin' it. Shit or get off the can. Make a decision.
