A New Path ~ Delivering The Message of Liberty
Good morning, Fellow Freedom Fighters. What follows will likely be disorganized rambling.
You've been warned.
I've been thinking, a great deal, about my recent article about Rush Limbaugh, and about the excellent and thoughtful Daily Wire article that informed it. Writing that, and reflecting on the Daily Wire article, brought a subject to the forefront of my mind that has long engrossed me, especially during the last 5 years of Donald Trump's magnificent Presidency:
Delivering The Message.
For the record: I am no Conservative.
The stupidest thing, arguably, that the Right Wing ever did, was to allow the Left Wing to poach the term "Liberal" ~ which is the original term for "Libertarian", thank you very much! ~ and allow themselves to be labeled as "Conservatives." Are you kidding me?? While "Liberal" connotes visions of freedom, excitement, and adventure, "Conservative" connotes visions of decrepit old Professors. Girls don't wanna boink "Conservatives", for phuck's sake.
But I digress. I'll pick up that rant another time, perhaps this very week.
What I have in common with those who inexplicably choose to call themselves Conservatives is that I believe in Small Government. Small Government is not by any means the hallmark of Republicans, but to distinguish Republicans from Conservatives ~ to thread that needle:
Conservatives, in preferring that Government be less activist ~ more conservative ~ are thus, almost incidentally, therefore inclined to favor Small Government, simply by virtue of a disinclination towards creating bloated bureaucracy that needs to be paid for.
Republicans, on the other hand, are all too happy to play Politics, making deals with Democrats that result in Pork, additional bureaucracy, higher Taxes, and higher National Debt.
What I object to, regarding Conservatism, is their emphasis on the Christian God, and their general disinclination towards change. America is all about change, about Evolution.
The Saving Grace of Conservatism ~ my God, what a lame name ~ is that they emphasize traditional American values: Liberty. Small Government. Enabling the Citizenry.
Republicans. Conservatives. Libertarians.
They ~ and I include the Libertarians in "they", meaning my fellow Libertarians ~ are all wise to believe as they believe...yet generally awful at Delivering The Message.
In all fairness, though: It ain't an easy message to deliver.
Selling the "Liberal" message is easy as pie: Steal from the Rich! Give to the Poor! Oh, and, by the way: Let us ~ the Government ~ take care of everything, so that you never again need worry about your job, your home, your food, or your health. We'll just tax the Rich into the Stone Age to pay for everything, and we can all feel good about helping those in need.
Selling the "Conservative" message? Good luck. The problem is that the Conservative message, the Libertarian message, and the Republican message aren't sexy to most people. Libertarians have figured out that a Government which governs least governs best, Conservatives simply want to leave everything as it is, and Republicans just want to turn a Profit, with the least possible drama. It takes extraordinary oratorical talent to weaponize that message.
But it can be done.
And I intend to prove it.
Rush Limbaugh, Donald Trump, and Ronald Reagan and Jack Kennedy, before them ~ as well as Theodore Roosevelt, Abraham Lincoln, Andrew Jackson, Grover CleveLand, and others ~ were Revolutionaries ~ still is, in Trump's case! ~ and changed the world forever.
But there is a higher plane of engagement to be attained.
Limbaugh and Trump have been magnificent...but they've spent far too much time pissing and moaning about evil people...and not enough time asking people questions.
That, in my small, steady way...is what I intend to do.
Because only Americans...can save America.
